Serpentine

Country of Origin
China

Serpentine Stone isn't so well known, but can be very beautiful when carved correctly. It is a very interesting and colorful material for certain animal carvings. Serpentine rock can be apple-green, purple, beige, brown and even black. It is often mottled with light and dark colored areas. Its surfaces often have a shiny or wax-like appearance. It is called Serpentine because it often resembles the skin of certain snakes. A yellowish-green variety of serpentine called Bowenite, which can resemble Jadeite, is found in China.
